15th/16th January 2022                  Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Church rejoices today as on a wedding day. The Lord has betrothed himself to us in Jesus Christ, and we are not abandoned.    First Reading Isaiah 62:1-5 A song of rejoicing, now that Jerusalem is to be restored.    Second Reading 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 In a variety of gifts and talents, the Spirit inspires us for the common good.

Gospel John 2:1-11 At a wedding in Cana, Jesus shows us that the true bridegroom is here.

Newsletters are printed every week, and are available at all Masses, as well as being emailed to everyone on the list, and copies left in the Church porch. Please take copies of the newsletter give to people as well as other prayer sheets and cards etc. that I will leave at the back of Church and send by email. The Church Porch will generally be open from 10am to 1 pm.

Book Exchange available in the Church Porch. Please help yourself

Please note the very revised liturgical timetable this week, and say a prayer for Fr. P. as he goes on Study Leave for a week (and not on a cruise ship, alas).

Safe and Healthy Guidelines

Please wear masks whilst in the Church building,

and sanitize as usual. Social distancing is not required but please be sensitive to others, and for the time being the ropes at the front will remain on alternate side benches.

Communion distribution will continue by hand under one kind.

Diocesan safeguarding Co-Ordinator: The diocese is looking to recruit a suitably qualified individual with significant safeguarding experience to the post of diocesan safeguarding coordinator. This vacancy has arisen due to the forthcoming retirement of the current post holder. The application pack is available from the Diocesan Safeguarding Office via email safeguarding@lancasterrcdiocese.org.uk or you can search online via www.indeed.co.uk

‘The 100 Club’ is a fun way of raising money for the parish. Members pay £52 for the year (can be paid in full or by instalments) which gives them a chance of winning a monthly prize of up to £100. For every £1 donated 55p goes directly to parish funds. If you would like to take part in the draw as a new member for 2022 there are forms at the back of the Church as well as renewal forms for exsting members. A very big thank you to Pam and her family for keeping the draw going in these difficult times.  Thank you to all who have taken part through the years.  And fingers crossed you may be a winner next month.

Mass Intentions can still be left in the collection at Masses at the presbytery and these intentions can continue to be said. Everyone is dispensed from the Obligation of Sunday and Holyday mass for the time being. Mass intention envelopes are available at the back of the Church.

Food Sunday continues on the First Sunday of the Month, but food can be brought to the Church at Mass times or the presbytery at any time.

Hospital On-Call Chaplains are operating a 24/7 on-call R.C. Chaplain’s rota in Victoria Hospital. If you need a priest in an emergency, ring the ward and ask them to call the on-call duty R.C. chaplain.

Weekly Offerings. Given the financial ramifications of these times, the diocese is asking our parishioners to consider and arrange to keep up their weekly offertory donation, either by setting up a standing order or continuing weekly offerings in Church at Masses. Envelopes and the envelope scheme are available. You could also alternatively send us what you would normally put in the collection via bank transfer. Email us to take up this option. Many thanks.

Prayer for the Synod 2021-2023:

We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in Your name. With You alone to guide us, Make Yourself at home in our hearts; Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it.

We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote disorder.

Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path

or partiality influence our actions.

Let us find in You our unity

Mass will be streamed live on Saturday at 5 pm and Sunday at 10 am.

and then available for the week.

If you wish to watch ‘live’ please tune in five minutes beforehand.
